Henry Palmer Whitaker was born on February 23, 1843, in Cornish, New Hampshire, his father, Palmer, was 29 and his mother, Maria (Mary) Huntoon, was 28. He married Eliza A. Dow Whitaker and they had two children together. He then married Mary Brunt True on February 1, 1896, in Antrim, New Hampshire. He died on June 4, 1909, in Hillsboro, New Hampshire, at the age of 66, and was buried there.
6th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry
Henry P. Whitaker was a member in Company G. of the 6th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry. He was born in Cornish, New Hampshire. At the time of his enlistment, he was 18 years of age residing in Goshen, N.H. He enlisted Oct. 10, 1861 and was mustered into service on Nov. 28, 1861 with the rank of Private. He was severely wounded Aug. 29, 1862, at Bull Run, Virginia. Whitaker was appointed Corporal at the time of his reenlistment and mustered in Dec. 27, 1863.
He was wounded May 6, 1864, at the Wilderness, Va. Whitaker was appointed Sergeant, Aug. 1, 1864. This was followed by his promotion to 2nd Lieutenant of Co. I, on June 1, 1865. He mustered out the service on July 17, 1865.

After the war he resided at Hillsborough Bridge, New Hampshire.
